Six years have passed since we welcomed Mr. Higami for the first concert. The first concert was held in May 2017, shortly after he resumed his performance activities in 2016, when he decided to reinvent himself as a "right-handed pianist" after the despairing onset of dystonia. The second time was in 2020, the year when performers lost their stages across the board due to the Corona disaster.
Three years have passed since then, and at the end of last year, when I was thinking about requesting the third concert, I received a joyful invitation from Mr. Higami, who had seen the recovery of my left hand, and on the morning of the long-awaited concert, I received a notice that the concert would be canceled. He said he was having trouble moving his left hand. I was speechless when I thought of Mr. Higami, who was devastated.
Many people do not imagine a piano player with one hand. When I first heard Mr. Higami's performance, I was listening to only the sound with blinders on. I was listening with blinders on, regardless of whether he was playing with his right or left hand, his two hands, or anything else. What is this soul-stirring tone? I was amazed at the sound. And that feeling has never changed. Six years have passed since then. The hands of the clock that stopped in Corona are starting to move. And now, the world is constantly calling for diversity and inclusion. We are witnessing the arrival of a new era and a society in which all people can play an active role while accepting each other's differences, not only in sports but also in the world of the arts. We are not baptized in the Christian sense of the word, but we are sometimes cleansed and given new life by music. The title "Reborn" expresses just such a feeling. We can call them "emotions. This is how the times are reborn. I would like to hold a concert in which Ms. Higami's personality shines through in its entirety. We who come in contact with the sound of his music would like to welcome the time of Reborn together with him again.
