Toshima Ward Orchestra
The 95th Regular Concert
2023/05/05(Fr.) 14:00 Starting
We have been working on Mahler's symphonies every few years. This time, we will be tackling Symphony No. 9 for the first time in 23 years, since June 2000. Completed in 1910, when Mahler was 50 years old, the symphony consists of a complex and difficult first movement, an idyllic second movement, an intense third movement, and a fourth movement that evokes eternal time.
The first half is the symphonic poem "Don Juan" by Richard Strauss, who was also an active conductor at the same time as Mahler. This work was written when Strauss was 24 years old, but it is full of charm with its beautiful melody and unique sound.
Due to the spread of the new coronavirus, this will be the first performance at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space in four years.
Please enjoy these two masterpieces from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
