Following a powerful opening of Verdi's Overture, the orchestra will present Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto. Mayumi Kanekawa, who has already given numerous masterful performances with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, will refresh our familiarity with this piece and bring new charm to our attention. The Third Symphony "Scotland," inspired by a visit to the dilapidated chapel of Holyrood Palace during a trip to Scotland, is a masterpiece by Mendelssohn, who was described as a "landscape painter of sound," with a succession of fantastic musical ideas and an unparalleled romanticism. It is Mendelssohn's masterpiece.
