Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra The 972nd Subscription Concert B Series Unofficial

The 2023 festival will open with Mahler's Symphony No. 7, conducted by Kazushi Ohno. Between the first movement, which is indistinctly yin and yang, and the manic finale (5th movement), there are two "nocturnes" (one dark, the other sweet) and a bizarre scherzo in between, in which the serious and the humorous, the claustrophobic and the open coexist, as well as a chamber music-like atmosphere with guitar and mandolin. The work, which Ohno himself has long enjoyed conducting, will be performed with a fresh perspective, as he did in his inaugural performance as music director in April 2015.
