The 44th Regular Concert of Yokohama Musikverein Symphonic Band

2023/05/05(Fr.) 14:00 Starting

Kamakura Art Center, Main HallKanagawa

Whether played by an orchestra or a wind orchestra, a masterpiece is still a masterpiece.

The Yokohama Musikverein Wind Orchestra is made up of members of all ages who share the same desire to perform masterpieces from the past and present without being bound by the framework of brass band music. We are seriously researching not only arrangements and playing techniques, but also player assignments, in order to explore the possibilities of "new sounds for brass band".
Since its founding in 1975, the orchestra has had the late Mr. Kazuhiko Ikematsu (Principal Clarinetist of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra) as its Music Director and Conductor, and after Mr. Ikematsu's sudden death, the late Mr. A. Read, a world-famous composer of wind band music, and others have conducted the orchestra as guest conductors. This year marks the 27th subscription concert that we have had under the direction of our principal guest conductor, Mr. Hiroyuki Odano.
We have performed Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5, No. 4, No. 6 "Pathetique," Beethoven's No. 5, Brahms' Nos. 1, 2, and 4, and Respighi's Roman Triptych, as well as other symphonic works and symphonic poems in their entirety.
The second part of this concert will be the first attempt at a work by the Hungarian composer Kodaly. We have been practicing so that you can feel the music with a distinctive Eastern European accent. In the first part of the concert, we will perform pieces by the masters of the brass band world: Van der Roost, de Mey, and Smith.
