The gorgeous stage performance of "Turandot" at the opening of the "Mediterranean Music Festival" at the Queen Sofia Palace (Valencia, Spain), one of the largest theaters in Europe, will be screened in high-definition video!
The production was directed by Chen Kaicho, a leading contemporary Chinese film director who won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival for "Farewell, My Love" (1993) and is known for such masterpieces as "Assassination of the First Emperor" and "The Peking Violin". In the orchestra pit is Zubin Mehta, who has conducted many famous performances of this work.
Princess Turandot is played by Maria Gregina from Odessa, Ukraine, acclaimed as one of the best dramatic sopranos of her time for her overwhelming vocal and acting abilities. The role of Kalaf is played by Marco Berti, a talented Italian tenor who has sung all over the world. Liu will be played by Alexia Vulgalidou, whose Madama Butterfly at the New National Theatre of Japan is also memorable. Timur will be played by Alexandre Zymbalyuk (first prize winner of the 2007 Tchaikovsky International Competition), a remarkable bass, and the stage will be filled with an overwhelming performance.
