The domesticity of art and culture is becoming increasingly important as a counter to the global expansion of the information society. This performance is an attempt to confirm the uniqueness of culture and art born in one region.
In this country, it is inevitable that the transmission of art and culture is concentrated in Tokyo, where the population is large, but as a result, the shades of art do not necessarily lie between the metropolitan area and the regions. Artists who dare to transmit their works from the regions rather than from Tokyo are not only able to objectively view the phenomenon of artistic concentration, but they may also work consciously and critically. Therefore, local art and culture can sometimes be highly unique, and can easily be critical of the concentration of culture. Contemporary art festivals held in various regions are a manifestation of this.
The program will focus on works by Nagoya composer Mikio Tojima, who passed away in 2020. Mr. Tojima belonged to the improvisation group "Group Music" (Tokyo), which once dominated the world of improvisation and gave group music performances, but later returned to his hometown Nagoya and began to write many works with an experimental acoustic character based on the concept of "objet sonore," as well as many works based on folk songs from various regions of Japan. He also began to write many works based on folk songs from various regions of Japan. In this performance, with the cooperation of his bereaved family, we will investigate Mr. Toshima's works and perform folk song-like and acoustic experimental works, and explore the true face of Mr. Toshima, who was based almost exclusively in Aichi Prefecture except for his younger days. From active composers, the program will feature the premiere of a new work by Naoki Sakata, winner of the Akutagawa Composition Award and the Otaka Award, and currently composer-in-residence of the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as the gems of Natsuki Niwa, who has been active in recent years, and Sora Kobayashi, a professor at Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music who has created many lyrical works.
