Carmen.

Seville, Spain. Jose, a simple and earnest corporal of the guard, captures Carmen after she gets into a dispute at a tobacco factory. Jose is conflicted, but he cannot resist the charms of the free-spirited and passionate Carmen and lets her go. Jose forgets his fiancee, Micaela, and his duties to Carmen, and even becomes a gypsy smuggler for her. Gradually, however, Carmen loses interest in him and becomes infatuated with Escamillo, a flamboyant bullfighter. Jealous José shows up on the day of a spectacular bullfight, and urges Carmen to start over...
