Hinterhuber Piano Recital 2023

The concert will be hosted by Christopher Hinterhuber, Dean of the Piano Faculty at the world-renowned University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, Austria.

The main theme of the concert will be "Appassionata Ferventi," and the program will include famous pieces by Austrian and German musicians who were influenced by "Ferventi," such as Schubert's "Musik und Geschichte," Liszt's "Hungarian Rhapsody," and Brahms' "Variations on a Theme by Paganini.


◆L.v.Beethoven Piano Sonata No.23 in F minor, Op.57 "Passion
Beethoven's famous piece "Passion" was named after the publication of the score 10 years after his death. However, do you know that the score was not for solo piano, but was arranged for "four hands in concert"? The title "Passion" expresses the dramatic part of the piano sonata beautifully, and we have chosen it as the main piece of this concert.

Schubert's "Musik und Drehkopf" contrasts sharply with Beethoven's piano sonata "Passion" and is a wonderful contrast in the recital program. For Schubert, Beethoven was "a great target composer" and he always wanted to compose like him.
Coincidentally or inevitably, Beethoven also often used the musical word "semplice (always)," which Schubert often used in his later works.

◆F. Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2
It is said that Liszt liked Beethoven's "Passion" so much that he frequently played it at his piano concerts.

◆J. Brahms Variations on a Theme of Paganini, Op. 35, Vol. 1, No. 2
The atmosphere of Brahms' Paganini Variations is similar to that of Beethoven's "Sonata on a Theme of Fervor," a work driven by a dramatic impulse.
