Telemann Worship with Music Vol.2

The "Service with Music" is a collection of church cantatas published in Hamburg in 1725/26. This was because it was unprofitable to publish cantatas that were sung only once a year. However, Telemann published this collection not only for churches, but also for the general public who held musical services in their homes as was customary at the time, and it was very well received. The collection is highly regarded as an example of the religious works of the time, and was praised by the contemporary music theorist Mathison as a "first-rate work of valuable home music," and Handel also borrowed many melodies from it.
In this concert, we will focus on works from "Worship with Music" and its sequels that celebrate the Passover and the Feast of the Epiphany, interspersed with instrumental works that would have been enjoyed as home music as well. We hope you will enjoy them.
