Distance and Feeling Saxophone and Koto Concert in Matsudo

11th "Matsudo Christmas Concert" Participating Concert

2022/12/14(We.) 19:00 Starting

Matsudo Civic TheaterChiba

Saxophone and koto, different countries, different histories. The vibrations of reeds and strings, the distance and feel of two different instruments resonating with each other.
Masanori Oishi, a saxophonist from Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture, has been focusing on the unprecedented combination of saxophone and Japanese instruments in a project to commission and present new works for saxophone and Japanese instruments from leading contemporary Japanese composers and young composers from abroad.
In this performance, we will perform two pieces that were created as part of this project, one a classical Japanese piece and the other a piece that makes full use of a new method of playing the koto invented by a foreign composer, together with Fumie Hihara, a koto player from Koshu City, Yamanashi Prefecture, who lives in Paris.
This is a concert where you can enjoy the music along with a talk about the two instruments as well as the works. Please enjoy both old and new music with a fresh combination of the two instruments.
