Purpose of the Purple Ribbon Composition Award
The Purple Ribbon is a symbol for the prevention of violence against women, including sexual harassment, domestic violence, and sexual violence{Note}. Everyone wants to build good relationships between women and men, and no one inherently likes violence. Therefore, we hereby establish the 《Purple Ribbon Composition Award》, which will uncover musical assets as a culture of non-violence, and we invite a wide public to submit music with this philosophy. It is "aesthetic experience through music" that counters violence.

Furthermore, through the activities of this composition award, we hope that professional musicians and music lovers will encounter music that promotes "stop sexual harassment, domestic violence, and sexual assault" and incorporate it into their repertoire, thereby spreading the philosophy of the Purple Ribbon. Let's aim for a livable social environment where everyone can live in peace through music.

{Note} The reality of sexual harassment, domestic violence, and sexual violence is diverse, with not only female victims but also male and LGBT victims, and we will achieve the eradication of all these forms of violence.

[Purple Ribbon Composition Award Main Competition
November 25 is the Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women designated by the United Nations. At the Final Round, the contestants will perform their compositions, and a panel of judges will select the winning compositions. We hope that you will be able to experience to your heart's content the variety of works that have been gathered under the theme of "stop sexual harassment, domestic violence, and sexual assault. Program

  • Intermezzo (Interlude)" for the day when there will be no more domestic violence

    Makoto Nomura

Psychological clinician Kazuyuki Kusayanagi (a juror for this composition award), in the development of his wide-ranging activities, came up with the need for music to pray for the eradication of domestic violence, and commissioned Makoto Nomura to compose a piece for his own piano performance in 2001, which was the composer's first performance, giving birth to this piece. The title of the piece means "a piece of music to be performed until the day DV is eliminated," with the paradoxical intention of wishing that the piece would not be performed as soon as possible. Since its premiere, Kusayanagi has performed it at symposiums in Japan, as well as at peace events in Korea and China, and it has been featured as a concert piece by pianists in the UK, Malaysia, and widely abroad.

*The piece may not be performed due to time constraints when there are many entries.

*The name of the work/composer of the entry is
*The names of the works and composers of the entries will be posted on the website of the competition after the musical score screening is completed after the deadline at the end of August.
