Concert of Poulenc and Japanese Songs

Yamanaka Makoto Trial Performance

For 40 years, Japanese people have been studying and singing French songs in French. It has been difficult, but I have learned a lot, and I believe it has not been in vain. On the other hand, I also studied Japanese songs at the same time, although I started late, and I have come to understand the meaning of singing words and poems better.

Program

  • A day like this, a night like this

    plonk

  • Five Poems by Paul Éluard

    plonk

  • Sara, a collection of songs

    honesty and simplicity

We studied a song work by Poulenc on a poem by Paul Éluard. It is a serious song work by Poulenc, and its atmosphere is more serious than that of Apollinaire's work. The "False Engagement" on a poem by Louise de Vilmorin, written by a female vocalist, is in the elegant style of the rich couple, Poulenc and Vilmorin.
Four Dusk Songs" by Hikaru Hayashi is a contemporary work, but it is a masterpiece in which the quality and clarity of Shuntaro Tanikawa's poetry is best matched with the simple but profound music of Hikaru Hayashi.
Kiyoshi Nobutoki's "Sara," a collection of songs, is not often featured, but I chose it in the hope that this valuable collection of Japanese songs will become better known.
